  • Nadia Mohd-Radzman

    I am passionate about improving food security by translating plant biotechnology research to the field. I have co-founded an early-stage biotechnology startup that is developing a new technology to open up the bottleneck of plant gene-editing for better and improved crops. This was covered as one of the case studies by IE Cambridge on their website. Apart from my entrepreneurial and research work, I am also an active steering committee member of Cambridge Global Food Security (GFS) that is involved in developing programmes and events as platforms for interdisciplinary dialogues and collaborations between different departments across University of Cambridge to solve food security issues.

  • Coco Newton

    Coco is a 2023 Schmidt Science Fellow based between University of Cambridge, University College London and Delft Technical University in the Netherlands. Her work focuses on advocacy for transformative change in dementia healthcare systems, combining neuroscience with health systems design and engineering to translate new technologies for earlier disease detection and dementia prevention.

  • Ismail Sami

    I am a materials scientist and Research Fellow at the Faraday Institution, based in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy. I am also the CEO and co-founder of MoSTLi; delivering the next generation energy storage solution to help us get towards net-zero.

    I completed my MPhys in Theoretical Physics at the University of Manchester, with a year abroad at the University of California, Berkeley. After graduating with a MRes in Engineering at the University of Cambridge, I continued to gain a PhD in developing novel materials for energy storage.

E-Lab Visiting Entrepreneurs

E-Lab Visiting Entrepreneurs provide mentorship and guidance to aspiring entrepreneurs, giving members of the E-Lab community tailored feedback on their startup ideas and business models. They also hold "office hours" for those who are seeking insights on various aspects of entrepreneurship, from ideation to execution. By being accessible and approachable, they help E-Lab members navigate the complexities of starting and growing a business, equipping them with the confidence and knowledge to pursue their entrepreneurial goals.

  • Billy Boyle, MBE

    Billy is an engineering graduate from the University of Cambridge. He is one of the original co-founders of Owlstone Inc, spun out of Cambridge in 2004 with the goal of developing the applications of field asymmetric ion mobility spectroscopy (FAIMS).

  • Sheryl Cuisia


    Sheryl founded Boudicca Proxy Ltd. in November 2011, which was successfully acquired by Equiniti Group plc in May 2018, a FTSE 250 company at the time. She has extensive consulting expertise, having advised on 1,000 proxy solicitation campaigns relating to annual general meetings, mergers and acquisitions and shareholder activism across her 20-year career.

    Francesca Hodgson

    Francesca is an Executive Coach and Entrepreneurship Mentor. She holds a Masters in Business Administration from Cambridge University Judge Business School.

    In 2016 Francesca pioneered the use of contactless donations in the non-profit sector when she co-founded Fin-Tech company GoodBox. Since exiting the company Francesca has gone on to hold roles in VC and support other founders. Francesca is an active entrepreneur working to build, support and inspire many companies through her consultancy We are Ambition.

  • Malcolm McKenzie (KC 1977)

    Malcolm McKenzie (KC 1977)

    Chair of the SAB
    Malcolm studied Engineering at King's before working as an engineer in computational modeling for engines and telecoms. He later earned an MBA and transitioned to management consulting, becoming a partner at EY and then moving to Alvarez & Marsal. At A&M, he developed major advisory practices in Private Equity and Corporate business, focusing on turnaround and transformation support for European companies.

    Malcolm co-founded the 1977 King's Access Support Scheme, helping disadvantaged A-Level students achieve university entry grades. As a keen motorcyclist, he's also a director for a company producing parts for the Vincent 'Black Shadow' motorcycle, designed by King's alumnus Phil Vincent (KC 1926).

    Jonathan Adams (KC 1986)

    Jonathan, a Sector Portfolio Manager at Investec Asset Management since 2006, brings over 19 years of asset management experience. His career includes roles at Citigroup and leading European Wireless research at JPMorgan. A long-time angel investor, Jonathan has recently focused on companies delivering social impact. He is a founding member of the Clearly Social Angels Network, the UK's largest impact investor group, and serves on the Admissions Panel of the Social Stock Exchange. Jonathan is also a trustee of the Irene Taylor Trust, which uses music in prisons to break the cycle of reoffending, and a member of the Finance Committee of the Wates Foundation. He holds an M.P.A. from Princeton University, where he was a Woodrow Wilson Fellow.

    Penny is a seasoned Silicon Valley technology entrepreneur, CEO, and board director. As a Chairman of the Board and Director, she currently serves on three public company boards—Lumentum, SGH and FORVIA—as well as two private startup boards: Delphix and Modern Health. Over the past two decades, Penny has been an entrepreneurial CEO of two technology companies: Simplex, which she took public in 2001, and FirstRain, which she sold in 2017. Earlier in her career, Penny was a key member of the leadership team at Synopsys, contributing to its rapid growth, IPO, and ascension to the #1 market position in EDA. She holds a BA in Mathematics from King's and resides in Cupertino, California.

  • Luke Alvarez (KC 1986)

    Luke has 30 years in Technology and 21 years in Digital Games. He has founded and invested in Games and Technology companies around the world. He was co-founder & CEO of Inspired Entertainment Inc, a Nasdaq listed mobile games and virtual sports technology leader with operations worldwide. Luke was a founding board member of The Cloud, the UK’s largest public access Wi-Fi operator and is a founding board member of Upskins, a video games content innovator. Luke was a Case Leader at the Boston Consulting Group, earned a First Class Honours in Philosophy at the University of Cambridge and was a Fulbright Scholar to the University of California, Berkeley. He is passionate about content and storytelling and their interaction with the future of technology. Luke grew up in a family of poets, writers and gamers and is an old-school rock climber.

    Luke leads Hiro’s investment strategy and compliance and focuses on Hiro’s digital sports, social network and game technology investments.

    Lorraine is a Fellow and Director of Development at King's College. Formerly Senior Associate Director (Principal Gifts) at Cambridge University, and prior to that, Lorraine worked in fundraising for a variety of institutions including both Kent and Durham universities.

    Tim is a Senior Tutor at King's College and a lecturer in the Engineering Department at Cambridge. In the University, he is a member of the Electrical Group in the Electrical Engineering Division, focusing on electric machines and drives, and numerical simulation of electromagnetic fields. His main research themes involve renewable electricity and electric drive systems.

Sheelpa pioneered and launched the first global "Women in Tech" and "Smart Cities" innovation labs, uniting startups, corporations, academics, and governments to collaborate on transformative business opportunities. Now, as founder and Managing Director of Mavens & Mavericks (MM), Sheelpa bridges the gap between the corporate world and entrepreneurship ecosystem. MM's clients include global professional services leader EY and various high-potential startups.

    Diarmuid O'Brien

    CEO, Cambridge Enterprise
    Diarmuid joined Cambridge Enterprise in 2021, from Trinity College Dublin. There, he served as Chief Innovation & Enterprise Officer. In this role, he oversaw the the college's innovation and enterprise strategy. Previously, as Director of Trinity Research and Innovation, he managed both the Research Development Office and the Office of Corporate Partnership and Knowledge Exchange. During his tenure, he led the creation of the University Bridge venture fund—now ranked among the world's top five collaborative university funds by Global University Venturing. At Trinity, Diarmuid also served as Executive Director of CRANN, a leading nanotechnology and materials science research centre. He also held senior management positions in university spin-offs such as NTera, Xoliox, and Deerac Fluidics. Diarmuid holds a Research Fellowship from Princeton University, a Physics PhD from the University of Sheffield, and a Materials Science degree from Trinity College Dublin.

    Stuart, a fellow Benefactor of King's, has been a prominent business leader in the consumer product, retail, and service industries. He was awarded a CBE for his contributions to the china industry. Stuart's public roles have included chairing the British Ceramic Confederation and the West Midlands Development Agency, as well as serving on the Monopolies & Mergers Commission. He holds an LLB from the Open University, an honorary DLitt from Keele University, and is a graduate of Wharton's Advanced Management Program in the USA. From 2010 to 2013, Stuart chaired the King's College Development Board.

  • Lord Mervyn King

    Lord Mervyn King

    Past member of the SAB
    Mervyn King served as Governor of the Bank of England from 2003 to June 2013. He was knighted (GBE) in 2011, made a life peer in 2013, and appointed by The Queen to be a Knight of the Garter in 2014. Lord King is the Alan Greenspan Professor of Economics and Professor of Law at New York University and Emeritus Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics. In 2016 he published The End of Alchemy. His new book (with John Kay) Radical Uncertainty was published in March 2020. Born in 1948, Mervyn studied at King’s and taught at Cambridge and Birmingham Universities before spells as Visiting Professor at both Harvard University and MIT. From October 1984 he was Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics, where he founded the Financial Markets Group. He is Chair of the Philharmonic Orchestra and a member of the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee.
