Meet Sheryl!
“I am thrilled to be King’s inaugural Entrepreneur-in-Residence. With a background in business creation and investor engagement, expect an experience-based, energetic, and progressive approach to our engagement. Through my residential role this term, I will be freely available to assist students with their entrepreneurial ideas and projects, in addition to running a series of talks and workshops on the themes of starting up, investment, ‘side-hustling’ and ‘platrepreneurship’. An over-arching principle that I will be promoting is having confidence to be creative and free in thinking, having the courage to be commercial without compromising values, and becoming networked through making connections.”
Sheryl Cuisia is a dynamic entrepreneur with a specialism in the growing fields of stewardship, investor engagement and corporate governance advisory.
She founded Boudicca Proxy Ltd in November 2011, which was successfully acquired by Equiniti Group plc in May 2018, a FTSE 250 company at the time. She has extensive consulting expertise, having advised on 1,000 proxy solicitation campaigns relating to annual general meetings, mergers and acquisitions and shareholder activism across her 20-year career. Highlights include the Xstrata-Glencore merger, rebuttal of activist Nat Rothschild at Bumi plc (later ARMS), and work for US hedge fund, Elliott Advisers. Her clients at Boudicca include small-cap firms through to large-cap companies such as Barclays, BG Group, GKN, Persimmon, Severn Trent, Sky and Tesco.
On 1 January 2022, Sheryl assumed the role of Chair of the UK Individual Shareholders Society (ShareSoc), advancing the organisation's purpose of improving the investing landscape for individuals. Sheryl is a strong advocator of diversity & inclusion and promoter of progressiveness of thought in business. With this in mind, Sheryl co-founded and co-chairs the Women’s Company Secretary Circle (WoCoS), and sits as a member of the judging panel of the Non-Executive Director Awards. She also holds a small portfolio of non-executive director roles.
The base for her analytical, operational and business development skills can be attributed to her work in the UK and Canada for corporate advisory firms, including Georgeson, Salisbury Associates and Orient Capital, and eclectic studies in performing arts, data and systems analysis, and business administration at institutions including Birkbeck, University of Oxford (Continuing Education) and Bayes Business School.
Outside of work, Sheryl is an avid rare plant collector and hobbyist, combining her passion for houseplant investing and social impact via her #plantswithpurpose project on Instagram @sherylinmotion.
