Entrepreneurial talk: The Honest Guide to Raising Capital with Michelangelo Valtancoli
Michelangelo Valtancoli was Principal at seed stage fund Stride.VC ($300m AUM) under the mentorship of Fred Destin. He's now investing as an angel alongside two unicorn founders and focusing on creating a convergence point for young undiscovered talents.
In this session, the goal is to be brutally honest about the reality of raising capital. Michelangelo will share what VCs actually care about, where and why they might be wrong, and how to play them. He’ll also cover the different funding choices you have (VC, angel, grants, family offices, venture studios, accelerators, ...) and how to not get caught up in the industry nonsense.
Technical talk: Health Screening with Smartphone: Sound-Based Natural Understanding System with Dr Roeland Decorte (Decorte Future Industries)
Imagine holding your phone against your chest and getting a health check as precise as hospital equipment. This is what Decorte Future Industries is pursuing, by using proprietary AI to extract AI data from sound into medical insights. This allows health screenings for heart, breathing, brain, and digestive systems with hospital-grade accuracy done using only the phone's built-in microphone. This approach will be presented by Decorte's founder and CEO, Dr. Roeland Decorte.
Besides Decorte, Roeland founded Future Industries and AI Founders Association (AIFA), where he serves as a president. Supported by Google and Microsoft, AIFA represents the interests of AI founders and aims to amplify their voice in government discussions on AI. He advises startups, Raspberry Pi, and UK government bodies, including The Tony Blair Institute, on AI innovation. Under Roeland's leadership, Decorte has raised multi-million-dollar funding, participated in Techstars, and earned accolades including the UK Young Company of the Year Award in 2023.
